Our four-step process
Prep and contain: we tape plastic over ducts and doorways to section off the work area. Sand: dust vacuums run the whole time while we sand from coarse to ultra-fine grit. Stain: you pick the color from our high-quality stains, or keep the natural look of the wood. Finish: three coats for lasting protection, in the sheen you choose.
Choosing a sheen
Matte hides scratches and dust best and looks the most like raw wood. Satin is the most popular choice in homes, with a soft glow that's still forgiving. Semi-gloss and gloss reflect more light and look more formal, but they show wear and dust more. If you're unsure, we'll show you samples.
Can every floor be refinished?
Solid hardwood can usually be sanded several times over its life. Engineered hardwood depends on how thick its top layer is. Before we quote, we check how much wood is left above the tongue, so you know up front whether refinishing is the right call.
